KBOO @ the Clinton presents Right 2 Survive 10th Anniversary Celebration

KBOO @ The Clinton

kboo radio tower

KBOO and the Clinton Street Theater have partnered to bring you a monthly film series about....well, it could be about radio, or about anyone of the many programs that KBOO airs--politics, labor, human rights, and, of course, lots of music.

A new film or event every second Thursday of the month, so stayed tuned to the radio and check back on the website, because you never know what might be happening month to month.

We'll also collaborate on bringing you special events throughout the year like the annual celebrations for Zappa, Lennon, Miles Davis, and more.

#ReclaimMLK #IntersectionalPDX #soapboxSOLIDARITY

Join Right 2 Survive! A direct action group that educates both houseless and housed people on their civil, human, and constitutional rights. We also work to bridge the gap between housed and un-housed people by clearing away misconceptions and stigmas associated with houselessness and empower houseless people to stand up for them selves when their rights are violated.

We are taking the streets for the day of Martin Luther King Jr.'s day of birth. We celebrate and continue his efforts by standing TOGETHER and marching in solidarity through the streets of Portland. We are coming together to express the importance of intersectionality in the fight for Justice.

"One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws"- MLK Jr.

This is a collaboration of organizations and movements that work in our communities to engage and resist the layers of oppression. We come together on this day to welcome new groups into a larger community movement of CHANGE MAKERS.

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere" - MLK Jr.

Right 2 Survive Radio show.   Topic: Clean and Safe.

Right 2 Survive Radio show airs on the 2nd Wednesday of each month on KBOO 90.7 Fm. Each show is unique because it highlights the struggles of the unhoused here in Portland and some interviews from other cities across the country. Kboo 90.7 fm airs our hour long show from 6 to 7 pm. R2S radio isn’t just interviews, they are often emotional, inspiring and uplifting stories direct from people living unhoused. The show also includes musical interludes, that are usually in keeping with the them of a show or a song that relates to the previous persons story. We hope you have a chance to listen and provide us with feed back. This months topic will be on Clean and Safe. We went out to different parts of the city to get peoples perceptive on Clean and Safe program.

“The downtown Clean & Safe cleaning crew keeps downtown clean seven days a week. In partnership with Central City Concern, the Homeless-to-Work Program offers training and mentorship opportunities to workers that are formerly homeless or have other barriers to employment. For more than 20 years, Clean & Safe has offered this opportunity for formerly homeless individuals to re-enter the workforce. Cleaning crews provide sidewalk sweeping, graffiti removal, litter and cigarette removal and pressure washing services in the district.” Lately, we have been seeing Clean and Safe workers going through and throwing away people’s belongs and harassing people on the streets. Listen on Wednesday January 8th from 6 to 7 on Kboo 90.7fm to find out what is really going on in the streets. We will have interviews from the houseless community as well as clean and safe workers.
We will be holding a listening party at sister of the road starting at 5:30 to 7.

This is one of many listings of places all throughout the United States where it is "illegal to be homeless." There is history behind this place in Albany, Calfornia - it is known as "The Bulb."...

Veterans to City Council: Let’s create more low cost rest areas like Right 2 Dream Too for people who are houseless

February 25, 2013–Portland, OR –This Wednesday at 9:30am members of a veterans group will propose the creation of new rest areas to serve people who are houseless to Portland City Council. At  9:30am Wade Varner, Jason Kersten, and Karl Schave, members of Homeless Against Homelessness in America (H.A.H.A.),  are scheduled to speak at the regular city council meeting at City Hall. The three veterans will lay out their plans for more services in Portland modeled on Right 2 Dream Too and Dignity Village.

“We support H.A.H.A.’s proposals for more rest areas in the City of Portland, “ says Ibrahim Mubarak, who helped start Right 2 Dream Too. “The need is there. We often have to turn people away because Right 2 Dream Too is full.”

H.A.H.A. supporters  from Right 2 Survive and  Right 2 Dream Too plan to march from the Right 2Dream Too site  at  NW 4th and Burnside to City Hall starting at 8:30am. There will be a rally with speakers from all three organizations in front of City Hall before the Council meeting.
