Mark Russell & Shannon Wheeler: God Is Disappointed in You

28 November 2013 | From | Category: Books

gidiyDo not worry, that is not a new debate about religion and punk rock. It's just that Shannon Wheeler is my favorite comic book artist. I've got pretty much everything he has done and even the Too Much Coffee Man is the coolest of all superheroes. I know of no subversive comic and this applies to words and pictures.

God Is Disappointed in You follows a simple and ingenious idea: The Bible is the world's best-selling pure and simple, a real Auflagenhit. Only they have also read the least, even not when the Reformation has made a previous study of Latin useless. The language is just way too verschwurbelt. Calvin and Luther were just not writers, in their time have not and now speaks a fortiori no longer the case.

Therefore, Mark Russell has reduced the King James Bible chapter by chapter on the essentials, compressed to no more than 2 pages, and so expressed that one can also understand it.The text is quite funny, sometimes scathing and Illustrations of Schannon Wheeler There is nothing second after. This is neither pandering nor blind criticism and yet you would have the two 500 years earlier dragged it to the stake.

I assume that this book was not written for visitors to the Sunday school, which raises the question: For whom then? Now, even the most committed agnostic needs to recognize that the Bible is integrally linked with the cultural development of mankind. This can be good or bad, about knowing what's in it, may harm in any case.

The whole thing is also really nicely done: leather-look, silver edging, chlorine-free - light yellow paper and ribbon bookmark: At Christmas not the worst gift.
