Checkout Night Strike on Thursday Nites!
http://www.ThePortlandAlliance.org/nightstrike

Night Strike is on break until January 17th!! We are sorry for this inconvenience, but we will be back... come on  down and join us on the 17th!*

Night Strike is a unique opportunity for people to gather under the Burnside Bridge on the park side of Naito Parkway every Thursday night and love people because people matter. It’s an opportunity for members of Portland’s homeless community to hang out, enjoy a hot meal, receive a free hair cut, shave, have their feet washed and have their old shoes/clothes/sleeping bags replaced. It is also a chance for you to come down and share in the experience, help serve the needs of the homeless in our community, and more importantly, invest in lives and build relationships with the people you meet.

When and Where

We meet *every Thursday night at 7:00pm at Liberation Street Church for orientation and preparation.  We then transition together to the site at 7:50pm. We are usually done and cleaned up between 10:00 and 10:30pm.  The best place to park is in the parking lot between the Salvation Army mission and the MAX line on Ankeny St. Parking there costs $2 for the evening.  Street parking free after 7pm.

Make Night Strike Happen!

From food and supplies to the port-a-potty and permits, Night Strike costs BridgeTown an average of $675 each week.  This amount represents the “bare bone” costs associated with mobilizing and bringing relief to hundreds every single week.

You are NOT obligated, but we want our volunteers to know of a couple of ways you can partner with BridgeTown to meet current needs, as well as ensure the mobilization and relief efforts continue into the future.

Below is a list of items currently needed at Night Strike, and it would be awesome if all our volunteers would bring something with them to donate to the cause: (an offering is also taken during orientation)s are listed in order of need, but everything on here will definitely be put to good use!

  • Sleeping bags, blankets ( A HUGE need this winter)
  • New white socks (our most persistent need)
  • Coffee (pre-ground please!)
  • Men’s and ladies underwear (any sizes)
  • Tennis shoes/boots
  • Rain gear
  • Hot chocolate mix (must be large canisters, not individual servings)
  • Paper cups (8oz)
  • Bowls (16 oz, not Styrofoam)
  • Deodorant
  • Lip balm (Chapstick)
  • Razors
  • Small cans of shaving cream
  • Small tubes of toothpaste
  • Penne Pasta – can be found at Costco or Cash & Carry
  • Egg Pasta – can be found at Costco or Cash & Carry
  • Rice
  • No-boil Lasagna Noodles
  • Better than Bouillon Organic Chicken and Beef Base – can be found at Costco
  • Chipotle peppers in Adobo sauce
  • Industrial Cans of the following:
  • Stewed Tomatoes
  • Crushed Tomatoe
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Diced Green Chiles

FAQ

Q: How old is the minimum age for serving at Nightstrike?

A: There is not an age requirement. Nightstrike is very safe, and we have many people of all ages that come for the evening. We do however say that 6th grade is the minimum age that a person can volunteer for one of our jobs. Any younger than this we will require that your child stays with you at whatever job that you are wanting to do that evening.

Q: Do I need to register before each date that I volunteer?

A: It is not a requirement to pre-register before you come down. However, it does help us in determining the size of the crowd to prepare for. If you are a returning, single volunteer you are perfectly fine not pre-registering. It is much more important if you are bringing a l group of people over 5 or if it is your first time coming and you are wanting more information on the way the night will progress.

Q: Is there any special training to get involved at Nightstrike as a volunteer?

A: The only training that we do happens Thursday night at Nightstrike. We hold an orientation that happens from 7PM-8PM. During that time you will receive all of the direction for what we will be doing in the city and under the bridge that night.
