Guadalupe Rivera Marin picture
Her father carried a pistol, was Mexico’s leading Communist and the world’s best-known muralist. Her mother was an avant garde novelist. Her home was filled with people such as artist Frida Kahlo, revolutionary and political refugee Leon Trotsky, movie star Paulette Goddard, and photographer and Stalinist spy Tina Modotti.

Dr. Guadalupe Rivera Marín is the founder and board chair of the Diego Rivera Foundation, a former member of the Mexican congress and diplomatic corps, and a passionate advocate for public art.

In her first visit to Portland, she will be discussing her childhood in the Rivera household as captured in her new book, Diego Rivera the Red. She will also be discussing the importance of public art in giving voice to the powerless and bringing about social change.
