In 1981, the Portland Alliance was created to echo the view of a growing number of people who were disenchanted with a government led by Ronald Reagan. 30 years later, under the government of Barack Obama, the Alliance remains a vital voice for those affecting positive change.

These are critical times for local, objective media voices, and the

So why does the Alliance still matter?

During the Dick Cheney and George W. Bush years, it was easy to point out the problems in the administration.  Dick was brutish, crude, and lethal in his vitriol.  And Bush was insipid, ignorant, and arrogant in allowing his father's sponsors to take over the US government and betray the American people.
 
Now that Barack Obama is in power, it is not as easy to point out faults.  While Bush and Cheney were clearly corrupt, Barack is a better speaker and has  charisma which allows him to misrepresent his administration.
 
Under the Obama administration, our military affairs are controlled by a Republican Secretary of Defense who is most famous for lying to the American people and the presidents he has served.  Obama has accepted the Bush Doctrine and and betrayed every nation which once depended on America. 
 
Obama feels the USA is entitled to invade, attack, occupy, and exploit any nation, any time, for any reason.  This Bush Agenda contradicts the values my father fought to defend in World War II.  This betrayal of our trust is untenable.   If Barack clings to this misguided platform of endless war and unprincipled aggression, this nation will continue on our current road to ruin.  

This military betrayal costs thousands of lives, billions of dollars, and every ounce of credibility we might otherwise hope to establish. Barack allows transnational insurance cartels to gamble with the health of our people.  He has authorized wiretapping, allowed Guantanamo to remain open, and made no effort to restore habeas corpus. Not only do Åmericans no longer have the right to know charges brought against them, this administration claims the right to "render" any American they choose for torture, rape, or even murder overseas.  Our constitutional rights have been diluted and we are no longer a nation which operates according to the rule of law.
 
Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures. 
If we want the Alliance to continue, we must raise funds to support this critical newspaper.
