Salt and Terror in Afghanistan

by Kathy Kelly

In late January in a room in Kabul, Afghanistan, I joined several dozen people, working seamstresses, some college students, socially engaged teenagers and a few visiting internationals like myself, to discuss world hunger. Our emphasis was not exclusively on their own country’s worsening hunger problems. The Afghan Peace Volunteers, in whose home we were meeting, draw strength from looking beyond their own very real struggles.

Atlantic Coast Pipeline Faces Native American Resistance

Two Native American tribes in North Carolina are among the groups seeking to join a court challenge to federal regulators' decision to approve the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a $5 billion project proposed by utility giants Dominion and Duke Energy. The 600-mile pipeline would carry fracked gas from West Virginia through Virginia to eastern North Carolina, which is home to many Native Americans.

Red Cloud’s Revolution:
Oglalla Sioux freeing themselves from fossil fuel

Henry Red Cloud, like so many Oglalla Sioux young men, left the reservation to work in construction. When he returned home in 2002, he needed a job, and also wanted to make a difference. He attended a solar energy workshop and saw the future.

We've had enough. Thoughts and prayers are not enough to honor the victims of gun violence. What we need now is action....Students will rally in Washington D.C and in local communities across the country to demand action from our leaders on March 24 - join us as we fight for an America that is free from gun violence. The last big change movement for violence change came when students protested the Vietnam War. It can happen again.

37 poorer and less powerful nations take better care in providing for (and paying for) the health of their people. Instead of having Universal, nonprofit, single payer health care (as our president promised eight years ago...) we now have mandated and increasing payments to transnational insurance cartels who exclude 31-35 million of our people.

Take Action!  We are the change we seek!

"At home, American police bureaus, militarized and armed with machine-guns, have been provided a license to kill at will and our president claims a “right” to kill anyone, anywhere, any time, for any reason or without providing any reason at all. This amoral and extralegal extortion has been extended abroad in more than 25 corporate wars of choice. And what is most terrifying is that the American people have surrendered to this betrayal and treason."
