Hollywood Theatre Hires Former Walker Art Center Staff Member as New Public Programs Manager
Portland, Oregon – The Hollywood Theatre is proud to announce the hiring of new Public Programs Manager Lindsay Kaplan, newly relocated to Portland after five years at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

Born in Arizona and raised in South Dakota, Lindsay holds a BFA in photography from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.  Upon joining the Walker Art Center’s Education and Community Programs Department in 2010, she helped to organize and support the Walker’s educational tours and acclaimed community- and artist-driven public programs.  Her career highlights include working with artist Alison Knowles to stage her iconic performance, “Make a Salad,” and managing sound artist Chris Kallmyer’s residency, “Baseball Day to Day,” on Walker’s Open Field in 2014.  Lindsay also served as the lead programmer for “Pop Remix,” a series of free Thursday night events featuring an artist-led activity, a screening, a DJ, and a band inspired by the Walker’s exhibition International Pop in 2015.

Now in her role as the Hollywood Theatre’s Public Programs Manager, Lindsay will utilize her wealth of knowledge and experience to engage new audiences through media-anchored, socially engaged, participatory works in the community, including screenings, talks, and symposia; coordinate artist-in-residence programs at various school and cultural sites; and cultivate a diverse network of media arts educators and advocates in order to facilitate resource sharing and broaden regional impact.  Lindsay enjoys adventuring, baking, skipping, and telling bad jokes and is thrilled to be doing all of these things in closer proximity to the ocean.

To get in touch with Lindsay about her new role or partnership opportunities with Hollywood Theatre public programs, email her at lindsay@hollywoodtheatre.org.

Our education programs are taught by skilled media arts professionals from a variety of disciplines.

Mika Kiburz, originally from Chicago, has travelled and lived many places in the world. After graduating from the Cinema and Comparative Literature Program at the University of Iowa, she has been pursuing nonfiction video and film work. She has directed and worked on many short films as well as 3 feature length documentaries, involving environmental and human rights issues. She also has a passion for circus arts, juggling and more. After working with a children’s circus in Hawaii, she is excited to continue the balancing act between cinema and circus. Check out her work here!

John Whitten is a visual artist and educator. He recently moved to Portland from Eugene, OR after receiving his MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from the University of Oregon. He has worked in arts-based education for the past seven years teaching Video Art, Drawing and Foundations Design at the University of Oregon, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Caldera, Watkins College of Art & Design and the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Driven by a passion for the outdoors, an interest in our cultural fascination with survivalism, and a concern for a changing climate, his personal work investigates what it means to make one’s way through life. Check out his work here!

Joshua Winegarner is a media producer, artist and animator living in Portland, OR. His work ranges from pop-up books to films, and merges classic, handmade techniques with contemporary and emerging digital technologies. He honed his animation chops under the tutelage of Will Vinton at the NW Film Center, and is currently producing and animating his first major mixed-media video project, The Martyrdom of Old Saint Nick, which is scheduled for release in December 2015. Check out his work here!

Ryan Woodring is a visual effects artist who packed his life into a car in 2013 to move from Pittsburgh to Portland in order to work on Laika’s “The Boxtrolls.” His own artwork, which he shows in galleries both locally and nationally, is inspired by his career in the film and animation industry.  Originally from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Ryan attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he graduated with Time-Based Art and French Studies degrees in 2010. Check out his work here!
